Types of Espresso Machines
There are different types of espresso machines in the market. Let’s take a look at each type of them:
1. Manual Espresso Maker
The manual espresso machines are for people that don’t mind putting out some extra work into their espresso drink. That additional work can pay off though, because manual espresso makers give you the ability to control every step of the process of making a shot of espresso, so that you can possibly (if you do everything right) end up with the perfect shot. On the other hand you can easily screw up the espresso if you don’t get it the right way, and it can take quite some time for you to learn how to make it right.
The most recognizable thing you’ll notice about these manual machines is the lever. Some have a spring piston lever and others a direct lever design, with the latter being a bit more work. Manual espresso makers are often attractive, almost as decorative as they are functional. They’re a bit pricey, but for the real connoisseurs willing to put the work in, they can produce a great shot of espresso. They also have a reputation for being durable and lasting a long time.
2. Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine
They’re the most popular type of espresso machine on the market today.
Semi-automatic espresso machines have electric pumps, which make them much easier to use than the pure manual machines. You get the best of both worlds, the control that people like in manual machines and the ease of use that’s available in a lot in automatic machines.
3. Fully Automatic Espresso Machine
With the addition of an electric pump, fully automatic espresso machines also use automation in measuring the amount of water and delivering it for the espresso drink. As a result, these machines are even easier to use than the semi-automatic models. The drawback is that you will have less control over the process and your final drink.
Prices for this type can go from several hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars.
